Top Five Tips to Reduce Your Manufacturing Water Footprint

Elizabeth Flammini, MBA, P.E.

I integrate experience as a high-tech marketer and civil engineer in approaching business, environmental and sustainability challenges. My experience encompasses ten years of high-tech marketing including seven years at Intel and environmental engineering (water and wastewater treatment plant design, water reclamation and groundwater management) for governmental agencies including the City of Los Angeles and the Orange County Water District. I am currently the Director of Marketing at Zuvo Water LLC, a global innovator in residential water filtration products.

While at the Orange County Water District, I led the preparation of the feasibility study report for the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) water reclamation project. The project diverts highly treated sewer water that would otherwise be discharged into the ocean and purifies it through a series of advanced techniques: microfiltration, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet disinfection and hydrogen peroxide. The cleaned water is returned to the groundwater basin to increase both water supply and quality. It received the Swedish Industry Water Award in 2008, the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2009 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement (OCEA) Award as well as the US EPA's Water Efficiency Leader Award. The project is featured on a special PBS Newshour Science Report.

My current focus is on helping organizations (corporations and governmental agencies) achieve business goals related to marketing, social media, sustainability/triple bottom line, water resources, environmental stewardship and conservation. I am a registered professional Civil Engineer in the State of California and have bachelor and masters degrees in Civil Engineering as well as an MBA from Duke University.
